Here is Version 1.0 of text for HISTORICAL MARKER to be placed at 214 Marsteller Street. Please add your comments and/or text in a post below.

Stellar Brothers Coop House 1963-1986

214 Marstellar Street

On this site, Stellar Brothers Coop was home to 23-28 Purdue men each year, a unique, memorable source of life-long friendships and unforgettable experiences. Packed into five study rooms, sleeping in one open-air bunk room, cooking, cleaning, living, and learning together, this small house launched huge careers. We will forever be the Stellar Fellars.

Doug, thanks for getting this forum started!

We need help on the Dates!!

Start Date: We know now SB was started in the 50s...but when?   How far back can anyone confirm?   I'll put in 1956 for now.

End date!  At our 2016 reunion, someone has a photo of a backhoe knocking our beloved house down.   It took place in a May, as the brother with the photo was on campus for graduation of a friend and swung by Marstellar Street to see the house.  What I can't recall was the year...I think 1986 but need confirmation.

If someone was good at doing real estate records search, this might be clear in Tippecanoe County records...whenever it started, there may be a record of sale to the church which owned us (Nazerene??).  And the sale date to the developer who build the apartments would also be there.

I'll update below...keep giving us comments to make this good.  Shoot, this plaque may well outlive us all, so let's make it good!!!

Joe

We just got another good idea from Steve Wogoman...can we incorpoate the text into an outline resembling our Pledge Boards??   Nice idea...we'll see if we can work that in!!

Version 1.2!!  Had some good suggestions.   Plus we now have proof Stellar Brothers started in the fall of 1957!   So, that's the start date...we found this in an old Purdue Debris.  Also from the Debris, it appears SB went out with a whimper in the spring of 1984, with a photo of only seven members.  I welcome other info any of you might have.

And Denny Gardner added some good edits, incorporated below.   Plus, Steve Wogomon suggested we try to incorporate the SB pin shape, the same one used for our Pledge Boards.   So, the work continues...add your comments here!
